How to Safely Mount an Elation Lighting Fixture

Elation lighting fixtures are designed with specific mounting points and hardware for professional installation.

Always refer to the user manual for your exact fixture before installation. Mounting methods, hardware requirements, fixture weight, orientation, safety-cable attachment points, and other requirements vary by product.

Installation and overhead rigging should only be performed by qualified personnel familiar with professional entertainment rigging practices and applicable safety requirements.

Start Here: Check the Fixture Manual

Before mounting the fixture:

  • Confirm the exact fixture model.

  • Locate the current user manual.

  • Review the installation and mounting instructions.

  • Confirm the fixture weight.

  • Confirm the approved mounting orientation.

  • Identify the manufacturer's intended mounting points.

  • Identify the designated safety-cable attachment point.

  • Confirm which mounting brackets, omega brackets, clamps, fasteners, or other hardware are specified for the fixture.

Do not assume mounting hardware or procedures are interchangeable between Elation fixture models.

Inspect the Fixture and Mounting Hardware

Before installation:

  • Inspect the fixture for visible damage.

  • Inspect mounting brackets and attachment points.

  • Inspect clamps, fasteners, safety cables and other rigging hardware before use.

  • Do not use damaged, deformed, excessively worn or corroded hardware.

  • Make sure all mounting hardware is properly rated for its intended application.

  • Confirm the supporting structure is suitable for the intended installation.

If the suitability or load capacity of the supporting structure is unknown, do not install the fixture until it has been evaluated by a qualified person.

Use the Correct Fixture Mounting Points

Mount the fixture only using the mounting points and methods identified in the product's user manual.

Depending on the fixture, this may include:

  • Omega brackets

  • Yoke mounting points

  • Clamp mounting points

  • Manufacturer-supplied brackets or hardware

  • Other product-specific mounting systems

Use only appropriately rated clamps and rigging hardware suitable for the fixture, mounting method and supporting structure.

Do not attach rigging hardware to handles, covers, cables or other parts of the fixture that are not designated as mounting points.

Always Use a Secondary Safety Attachment

When required for an overhead installation, use an appropriately rated secondary safety cable or other approved secondary attachment.

  • Attach the safety cable to the fixture's designated safety attachment point.

  • Attach the other end to an appropriate structural point independent of the primary mounting hardware.

  • Do not attach the secondary safety only to the fixture's primary clamp.

  • Keep the safety attachment appropriately positioned to minimize movement if the primary attachment fails.

  • Do not use a damaged safety cable.

Refer to the fixture manual for the designated safety attachment location and any product-specific requirements.

Secure the Fixture

Once the fixture is positioned:

  • Confirm all mounting brackets are properly seated and locked.

  • Confirm clamps and fasteners are secure.

  • Confirm the fixture cannot unintentionally rotate, slide or detach from its mounting position.

  • Verify any applicable yoke or position-locking mechanisms are secure.

  • Remove any tools or loose hardware from the installation area.

Follow any product-specific fastening or torque requirements provided in the fixture's user manual.

Check Power and Data Cables

Route power and data cables so they:

  • Do not place unnecessary strain on fixture connectors.

  • Cannot interfere with moving parts.

  • Do not interfere with Pan/Tilt movement on moving-head fixtures.

  • Are appropriately supported and secured.

  • Cannot become caught, pinched or damaged during fixture operation.

For moving-head fixtures, make sure there is sufficient cable clearance for the fixture's complete range of movement.

Before Applying Power

Perform a final inspection before operating the fixture.

Confirm:

  • Primary mounting hardware is secure.

  • Secondary safety attachment is installed correctly.

  • Mounting brackets and locking mechanisms are secure.

  • Power and data cables are properly routed.

  • Nothing obstructs the fixture's movement or ventilation.

  • No tools or loose hardware remain near the fixture.

Once installation has been checked, apply power and verify normal operation.

When to Stop and Seek Assistance

Do not proceed with the installation if:

  • The fixture's correct mounting method cannot be confirmed.

  • The supporting structure's suitability or load capacity is unknown.

  • Required mounting hardware is missing or damaged.

  • The designated safety attachment point cannot be identified.

  • You are unsure whether the proposed mounting orientation is permitted.

  • The installation requires rigging work beyond your training or qualifications.

Consult the fixture's user manual or a qualified professional before proceeding.

Need Product-Specific Mounting Information?

Mounting requirements vary between Elation products.

If you need help identifying the correct mounting hardware, mounting points, safety attachment location, or approved mounting orientation for a specific Elation fixture, submit a Technical Support request through the Elation Support Hub.

Please provide:

  • Exact fixture model

  • Serial number, if available

  • Intended mounting orientation

  • Description of the installation

  • Photos of the fixture or proposed installation, if helpful

Elation Technical Support can then provide guidance based on the specific product and its approved documentation.
