Summary: New to Elation? Start here for the basics of setting up your fixture, finding documentation, connecting DMX, checking firmware, and getting support.
Welcome to Elation
Whether you’re setting up a new fixture for the first time or working with Elation products for the first time, this guide will help you find the information you need and get up and running.
Before installing or operating any fixture, always review the product's user manual and applicable safety information.
1. Find your product
Start by identifying the exact model of your Elation fixture. The model name can normally be found on the product label located on the fixture.
Use the search bar at the top of the Elation Support Hub to search for your product by model name.
From there, you can find available:
User manuals
Specifications and technical information
DMX channel information
Firmware and software
Troubleshooting articles
Related support information
2. Read the manual before installation
Before powering, mounting, rigging, or operating your fixture, review the current user manual.
Pay particular attention to information covering:
Power requirements
Mounting and rigging
Safety cable attachment
Operating orientation
Environmental and IP-rating requirements
Minimum clearances
DMX connections
Approved accessories
Always follow the installation and safety requirements specified for your particular fixture.
3. Connect power and perform an initial check
Once the fixture has been safely installed according to its manual, connect it to an appropriate power source.
When the fixture starts, allow it to complete its normal startup sequence.
Check the display for any warnings or error messages before continuing.
For moving-head fixtures, make sure there is adequate clearance for the fixture to complete its pan and tilt initialization without obstruction.
4. Set up DMX control
To control your fixture from a lighting console or controller, you will typically need to select a DMX mode and assign a DMX starting address.
The available DMX modes vary by fixture. Consult the fixture's user manual for the channel modes and DMX protocol information.
After selecting the appropriate mode:
Set the fixture's DMX starting address.
Connect your DMX or network control signal.
Confirm the fixture is receiving control data.
Patch the correct fixture profile and mode in your lighting console.
Test basic fixture functions.
Tip: On many Elation fixtures, a flashing display can indicate that the fixture is not receiving a DMX signal.
5. Check your firmware
Keeping fixtures on the appropriate firmware version can provide product improvements, compatibility updates, and issue corrections.
Search the Support Hub for your fixture to find available firmware information and update instructions.
Different Elation product families may use different firmware update methods, so always follow the instructions for your specific product.
6. Register your product
Registering your Elation product helps maintain accurate product and ownership information and can make future support easier.
Select Register a product at the top of the Support Hub to get started.
Have your product model and serial number available.
7. Need help?
If something isn't working as expected, search the Support Hub using the product name and a short description of the issue.
For example:
“Paragon M not responding to DMX”
“How do I update firmware on KL Profile?”
“Proteus Maximus error message”
Our Support Hub can guide you through available Elation documentation and troubleshooting information.
If you still need assistance, select Contact support. Your request can be routed to the appropriate Elation team for follow-up.
