Where Can I Find Fixture Profiles?

Where Can I Find Fixture Profiles?

The correct fixture profile will depend on the lighting console or control platform you are using.

Before selecting a fixture profile, we recommend checking the current Elation user manual and DMX chart for your fixture. This is the best reference for confirming the correct DMX mode, channel count, and channel functions.

Elation Fixture Documentation

Current user manuals and DMX information for Elation fixtures are available through the Elation website.

Locate your exact fixture model and review the current user manual or DMX chart before selecting a profile on your console.

Always make sure the profile you are using matches:

  • The exact Elation fixture model

  • The DMX mode selected on the fixture

  • The channel count for that mode

  • The channel functions shown in the current Elation DMX chart

This is especially important when using fixture profiles provided by a third-party console manufacturer.

Obsidian Control Systems / ONYX

If you are using an Obsidian Control Systems NX console or ONYX, use the ONYX Fixture Library.

Visit the Obsidian Control Systems website and navigate to:

Support > Fixture Library

ONYX maintains its own fixture library and includes profiles for Elation products.

If the required fixture profile is not available, you can submit a fixture profile request through Obsidian Support or create a custom fixture using the ONYX Fixture Library Editor.

Using Another Lighting Console

If you are using a console or control platform from another manufacturer, such as MA Lighting, ETC, ChamSys, Avolites, Hog, or another third-party system, fixture profiles are generally provided and maintained by that console manufacturer.

Search the fixture library provided by your console manufacturer for the appropriate Elation fixture.

Important: After locating the profile, compare its DMX mode and channel layout with the current Elation user manual or DMX chart.

A fixture profile may have been created for an older firmware version, a different DMX mode, or a previous generation of a similarly named product.

If the profile does not match the Elation DMX documentation, contact the console manufacturer or request an updated fixture profile from their support team.

GDTF Fixture Profiles

Elation supports GDTF (General Device Type Format) and publishes GDTF fixture information for compatible lighting control and visualization platforms.

GDTF files can contain detailed fixture information including:

  • DMX modes and channel functions

  • Fixture geometry

  • Physical properties

  • Color information

  • Gobos and other device information

Elation GDTF files can be found through GDTF Share.

GDTF should only be used with consoles or software that support the GDTF format.

Note: ONYX currently uses its own fixture library and does not directly import GDTF fixture files. ONYX users should use the ONYX Fixture Library instead.

Can't Find the Profile You Need?

If you cannot locate the correct fixture profile:

ONYX / Obsidian users:
Submit a fixture request through Obsidian Control Systems Support.

Third-party console users:
Contact the console manufacturer or submit a fixture request through their fixture-library support system.

When requesting a profile, provide:

  • Manufacturer: Elation Professional

  • Exact fixture model

  • Required DMX mode

  • Channel count

  • Current Elation user manual or DMX chart

Important

Always confirm that the fixture profile matches the exact fixture model and DMX mode being used.

Similar fixture names, different product generations, firmware revisions, or different DMX modes may use different channel layouts.

If the profile does not match the current Elation DMX chart, channels or fixture functions may operate incorrectly.
